Family HEPIALIDAE
We saw Archaeoaenetus nielseni on 23 October 2021. The only other observation of this species on iNaturalist, was on 16 November 2023 and was also from the Dorrigo Plateau. Both these two moths were females, and a male from Dorrigo is in the Australian National Insect Collection. Only a few specimens are known from just north and just south of the Hunter.
Nothing is known about its life cycle.
