Cryptophasa albacosta Small Fruit Tree Borer
Cryptophasa albacosta is found in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania. We have seen this moth from November to February. Females have threadlike antennae; males feathery.

Larval Foodplant
The foodplants we have growing here are: CUNONIACEAE: Callicoma gummiferum, PROTEACEAE: Banksia integrifolia, Macadamia integrifolia, and various fruit trees.
The caterpillar bores a hole into the branch of a tree, and emerges at night to drag leaves into the borehole which are consumed at leisure. It creates a silky pile of frass at the borehole entrance. The caterpillar grows to a length of up to 5 cms and pupates in its borehole.
