Mandibulate archaic moths
Considered the most primitive extant lineage of Lepidoptera. It is the only moth to have chewing mouthparts rather than a proboscis. They feed, often in large numbers, on the pollen of flowers. Here on our place several were seen in the flower spike of Alocasia microrrhiza.
