Parotis marginata

Family CRAMBIDAE

Subfamily Spilomelinae

Parotis marginata is found in Western Australia, Northern Territory, Queensland and New South Wales. We have seen this common moth from October to May.

The male moths have a coremata or inflatable scent organ, visible as a tuft of brown hairs, on the end of the abdomen which emits pheromones to attract a female.

Larval foodplant

The larvae live in a shelter created from leaves curled or joined with silk. We have found it eating Tabernaemontana pandacaqui APOCYNACEAE, Banana Bush. It is also said to feed on RUBIACIAE: Gardenia jasminoides and APOCYNACEAE: Alstonia scholaris. Reference https://lepidoptera.butterflyhouse.com.au/spil/marginata.html
