Tonica effractella

Family Depressariidae

Tonica effractella

Tonica effractella is found in Queensland and New South Wales. We have seen this moth in January and February.

Although BOLD Australia have a specimen resembling the cream moth as unnamed species ANIC1 and ANIC2, Lepidoptera Butterfly House claim they have bred this moth through from caterpillar and the female was fawn coloured and the male nearly white. Both had a black mark on the tip of the forewings.

Larval Foodplant

The caterpillar is said to bore into the growing shoots of STERCULIACEAE including Brachychiton acerifolium, B. paradoxum, Sterculia quadrifida also Cotton.
